Barts Bank – Band 6 & 7 - Clinical Nurse Specialists in Palliative and End of Life Care
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the above posting at Whipps Cross Hospital. We are seeking experienced clinical nurses to join the Barts Health Staff Bank family.
Our group of hospitals provide a huge range of clinical services to people in east London and beyond. We operate from four major hospital sites (The Royal London, St Bartholomew’s, Whipps Cross and Newham) and a number of community locations, including Mile End hospital. Around 2.5 million people living in east London look to our services to provide them with the
healthcare they need. Whipps Cross in Leytonstone is a large general hospital with a range of local services.
The post holder will manage the provision of specialist palliative care advice and support to
people affected by life limiting illnesses, and also to patients who are at the end of their lives.
This will be achieved both directly through clinical practice and caseload management, and
indirectly through leadership, education, research, audit and professional activities.
The aim of the post is to maximise the quality of life of patients with advanced life limiting
disease/ those at the end of their lives, and to also provide support and advice to the
families/carers of such patients.
- Extensive experience within Palliative/ end of life care/long term conditions.
- Experience of managing a clinical caseload.
- Experience of delivering educational sessions and developing training programmes.
- Experience of managing challenging situations and ethical dilemmas.
- Knowledge and experience of research.
- Knowledge of local/national Health and Social Care Policy
- Advanced written and verbal skills.
- Sound organizational skills, including ability to give direction.
- Excellent knowledge of the principles and practice of specialist and supportive palliative care.
- Able to analyse and discuss factors that impact upon interdisciplinary working.
- Experience of initiating and managing change.
- Previous participation in quality initiatives or audit.
- Able to work well within a team and also independently.
- Flexible in approach in order to meet the demands of the service.
- Demonstrated research-based knowledge of pain and symptom management.
- Able to critically reflect on prescribed interventions.
- Knowledge of current professional issues in nursing and palliative care.
- Aware of drivers for change in the NHS, cancer and palliative care services.
