All members of the multi-disciplinary team, including senior management team, Nurses, Consultants, Practice Managers, Booking Team, Finance team, reception team, Pharmacy, Porting staff, security.

GP’s, other health care providers, Embassy personnel, insurance providers.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

The post holder is responsible and accountable for the effective delivery of services across all of the Moorfields Private Out-Patient sites.

 

To actively contribute to the continued development of the Ophthalmic nurses and technicians and to work flexibly across its operations.

 

To develop and implement systems to monitor patient experience and introduce improvements that deliver excellence across the service.

 

To manage the outpatient clinic scheduling processes, liaising with the internal, external practice managers, Consultants and Reception team as appropriate.

 

To work in collaboration with other Senior Sister/Charge Nurse colleagues within Moorfields Private to ensure a working knowledge of all service delivery areas, processes and in-patient/out-patient care pathways.

 

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Responsibilities

 

To work according to the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines as a named nurse (or key worker) for a group of patients and take responsibility for:-

  • Protecting and supporting the health of individual patients and clients
  • Assessment of care and health education needs
  • Development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care including discharge planning for each patient.

 

To manage the delivery of the clinical services provided by the Out-Patient Centre and at all Moorfields Private sites to include the management of staff, equipment, supplies and resources.

 

To promote and participate in the implementation of the MEH nursing strategy and review nursing practice and implement appropriate changes based on research/best practice.

 

Develop and implement Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives.

 

To liaise with the electro-biomedical engineers to ensure that the procurement of medical equipment, service contact agreements and engineer call outs are reported and the documentation uploaded on to the EBME database.

 

To ensure that Standard Operating Procedures and risk assessments are developed,  maintained and adhered to.

 

To facilitate and support junior staff to develop their competencies and skills.

 

To participate in the training and development of non-registered clinical staff within the Out-Patient Centre.

 

 

Patient Care Responsibilities

 

To work autonomously as an independent Practitioner within protocols.

 

To educate patients and their carers where the need is identified.

 

To maintain a safe environment and work with other members of the team to maintain health care environments that are conducive to safe, therapeutic and ethical practice.

 

To promote a patient focused multidisciplinary approach to care in collaboration with carers, health care professionals and other agencies.

 

To supervise junior staff in the delivery of care.

 

To participate in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication.

 

To take an active role in the establishment and monitoring of protocols/care pathways.

 

 

Professional Development and Education Responsibilities

 

To ensure the professional development and practice skills of the outpatient clinical team.

 

To assist in the development and implementation of a programme to ensure an improved customer experience.

 

To ensure that all new staff complete Trust, local orientation programmes, mandatory training sessions and annual updates and keep records of training.

 

To be responsible for developing and sustaining own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness, maintaining a professional profile in accordance with Revalidation.

 

 

To be appraised at least annually and contribute to personal performance/ development plan (PDP).

 

To participate in the appraisal of staff annually, addressing personal development plans and monitoring performance.

 

To ensure that all members of the clinical team receive the appropriate training from the clinical applications specialist for the specific diagnostic equipment as required.

 

To participate in the appraisal of staff annually, addressing personal development plans (PDP) and monitoring performance, ensuring 100% compliance.

 

To develop computer literacy skills to ensure work within the software packages used within the Out-Patients Centre.

 

To carry out standing financial instructions according to Trust policy in direct relation to Private Patients.

 

To engage in aspiring leadership courses to reflect and develop own skills and leadership abilities.

 

To assist in establishing programmes of clinical supervision as appropriate.

 

Ensure that the clinical areas maintain a stimulating environment for teaching and learning in order to advance the role of the Ophthalmic Nurse.

 

To work in line with Trust policies and procedures.

 

Research and Development Responsibilities

 

To promote nursing practice in line with relevant research and evidence based practice.

 

To work with the Clinical Education Team in development and implementing best practice.

 

To deliver care based on current evidence best practice and where applicable, validated research when available.

 

To lead and contribute to research and development programmes within the ward/department.

 

To take an active role in the development and implementation of nursing practice guidelines, standards and policies

 

To promote and participate in the implementation of the MEH Nursing Strategy and review nursing practice and implement appropriate changes based on research/best practice.

 

Audit, Quality and Risk management Responsibilities

 

To lead/assist in the setting and monitoring of measurable standards of care and be accountable for maintaining standards.

 

To ensure staff are familiar with national, professional and local quality issues relevant to the delivery of nursing services, e.g. NHS Plan, Making A Difference, agenda For Change, Shared Vision, Modernisation agenda etc.

 

To uphold quality initiatives that improve “customer care” and enhance the interface between staff, patients and visitors.

 

To ensure the maintenance of a safe environment and identification of potential risks for all personnel, patients and visitors, taking appropriate action and advice where necessary.

 

To participate/lead in the audit process for monitoring and reviewing nursing quality and assist in raising the impact of the “Essence of Care” Benchmarking process and implementation the action plans.

 

To investigate complaints and provide a summary explanation for communication to the patient by the Moorfields Private Managing Director and/or Lead Nurse and to handle complaints in with Trust Policy.

 

To maintain a clean and safe environment. Reviewing, monitoring weekly inspection audits directly relating to infection/ environment control reporting any outstanding issues to the relevant parties.

 

Ensure that clinical governance is embedded in the delivery of care.

 

Management Responsibilities:

 

To be responsible for the management and delivery of the departmental budget.

 

To develop partnerships with management team in order to:

  • Gain understanding of resource management processes.
  • Have representation in service development issues.
  • Contribute to the planning process.

 

To review on an ongoing basis the clinical staffing resources to ensure that staffing levels reflect the workload and specialty mix and to manage these resources, safely, effectively and efficiently within budget.

 

To participate in the development of patient information materials.

 

Submitting monthly returns electronically to finance regarding staffing activity, absence returns, overtime hours and agency costs.

 

To update Private Patients Computer Systems (Compucare) accordingly with patient activity data.

 

To be involved in the recruitment and selection process when requested to do so and when required to Chair such panels.

 

To act as site cover nurse during the day when allocated to do so and participate in the Moorfields Private Senior nurse on-call rota.

  14. All staff are required to implement infection control policies and practices, including hand hygiene, waste disposal, staff uniform and occupational health responsibilities, as detailed in the Trust intranet.

     

  15. It is the responsibility of all staff to ensure that they have evidence of annual/or otherwise infection control training.

     

  16. All staff are responsible for ensuring that equipment used in the patient environment is cleaned, decontaminated and maintained in line with Trust policy.
