We care. We excel. We innovate. Always
Employing over 4,000 staff, Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust (MEHT) provides a comprehensive range of acute and community based services from four sites in, and around, Chelmsford, Maldon and Braintree.
The Mid Essex Trust was established in 1992, and its committed and experience-led management team has a clear vision of how it wants to support the local community of Chelmsford and the greater Mid Essex region. It’s through their overarching strategy of ‘Care, Excel, Innovate’ that the trust is able to achieve this vision.
The trust enjoys a strong clinical reputation and provides a wide range of services including A&E, emergency medicine and surgery, elective surgery in most specialties, and maternity and paediatric services. It also hosts regional plastics, head and neck and upper gastrointestinal (upper GI) surgical services and a supra-regional burns service to a population of 9.8 million.
Recognising that their staff play a vital role in providing a safe and high quality patient experience, the trust is committed to investing in developing a skilled and highly effective workforce by proactively creating a culture of learning to ensure that patient care and safety remains their top priority.
The trust’s overriding aim is to provide care that is safe, effective and results in an outstanding patient experience for the people of Essex whilst securing the future of acute hospital services in the Chelmsford and surrounding area that are clinically and financially sustainable. Their strategy, which will drive how this aim is realised, was developed in 2011 and is currently being reviewed and updated for the next five years.
During the summer of 2014 the trust worked with local communities, patients and staff to better understand the culture ie. “the way we do things around here” of their hospitals and what values and behaviours are important to deliver the care their patients, community and staff expect. As part of this consultation over 500 views were gained. This work will inform the strategy review. Part of this work looked at their overall vision statement and sought to affirm a more ambitious future looking statement of, “world class healthcare for you in the heart of Essex”. In 2015 the trust plans to share their strategy for the next five years, along with their values and behaviours, to enable discussion and engagement of all those they serve.
