Barts Health NHS Trust are seeking an enthusiastic and qualified Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join them on a temporary basis to support their Pathology department within the following locations:

  • The Royal London Hospital
  • St Bartholomew’s Hospital
  • Whipps Cross Hospital
  • Newham Hospital

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake routine examination procedures within the scope and in accordance with standard operating procedures and policies.
  • Perform acceptance testing of analytical instrumentation and examination procedures prior to the analysis of patient samples, and implement corrective actions to remedy any deviations from acceptance criteria.
  • Evaluate the technical authenticity of patient results and implement countermeasures in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • To communicate validated critical patient results to relevant clinical teams in a timely manner, as indicated in departmental standard operating procedures.
  • Promote and ensure accuracy of patient results through monitoring and maintenance of laboratory apparatus.
  • Monitor outstanding test list ensuring that analyte stability, clinical need or service level agreements are not breached.
  • Record information on the pathology computer system and ensure it complies with national and local data standards.
  • Maintain and promote a professional image and standard of conduct at all times.
  • Comply with Trust Statutory and Mandatory Training policy.

Important Requirements:

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent Holder of the IBMS Certificate of Competence, Registration Portfolio.
  • Registration as Biomedical Scientist with the Health Professions Council.
  • At least 6 months NHS experience in last 3 years.
  • A sufficiently developed knowledge and standard of Haematology & Blood Transfusion technique resulting in a high level of patient care.
  • Competent in basic laboratory techniques and troubleshooting.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality, professional, caring service to all patients.
  • Excellent administrative, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience of working as a team.
