Shifts pattern: Night shift from 8pm to 8am with an hour break, Flexible to cover different nights

Are you an experienced and motivated individual with a passion for laboratory science? We are seeking a Band 4 Associate Practitioner to join our dynamic Clinical Biochemistry team at The Royal London Hospital, part of the East and South East London Pathology Partnership (ESEL).

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high-performing, innovative pathology network serving a diverse population across East London.


What You’ll Do

As an Associate Practitioner, you will:

  • Support the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services in a busy biochemistry laboratory.
  • Perform pre-analytical and analytical tasks under supervision, including sample preparation, equipment maintenance, and quality control.
  • Supervise and support Medical Laboratory Assistants.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 15189 standards and Trust policies.
  • Participate in training and development activities to maintain competency.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Minimum 6 months paid NHS experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • GCSEs in English, Maths, and Science (or equivalent).
  • Strong communication, organisational, and IT skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.

Desirable:

  • BSc in a scientific subject (IBMS-accredited preferred).
  • Experience with laboratory systems such as WinPath, Cobas IT, or Q-Pulse.
  • Familiarity with Roche, Radiometer, Siemens, or Abbott analysers.
