University College London Hospitals (UCLH) are on the lookout for a committed and qualified Band 7 Clinical Pharmacist to join their highly skilled team in the pharmacy department.

Pharmacy Department:
The UCLH Pharmacy Department provides a comprehensive range of services with the overall aim of ensuring safe, effective and economical use of medicines throughout the Trust, whilst supporting education, training and research. Pharmacy is closely involved in all stages of medicines use, from negotiating contracts for the purchase of medicines through to assessing the outcomes of medicines in the clinical setting, and across all stages in-between.
The UCLH Pharmacy has close working relationships with the local hospital pharmacy departments at The Royal Free and The Whittington Hospitals. This relationship has resulted in centralisation of some key backroom operational services such as manufacturing, repacking and education and training, whilst focussing local clinical services directly towards improving patient care.
We also enjoy close links with the world leading University College London Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine, and also the Joint Programmes Board for London, East, and South East England, to offer the very best in training and education.
Job Purpose:
- Provide a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service to clinical areas, and ensure consistently safe, clinically effective, and cost-efficient use of medicines
- Drug history taking and medicines reconciliation
- Medicines optimisation
- Antimicrobial stewardship
- Multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and ward rounds
- Prescribe within the scope of your clinical competence (where registered)
- Timely medicines supply and management of medicines shortages
- Medicines-related advice to patients and other members of the MDT
- Support medicines-related components of the Trust’s electronic health records system, Epic, at ward level
- Discharge planning and post-discharge follow-up where relevant
- Support clinical governance functions
- Monitor incident reports for trends and themes
- Participate in investigations of medication-related incidents
- Develop and implement guidelines, policies and procedures
- Conduct and act upon audits and evaluations
- Support the education and development of junior staff and pharmacy undergraduates, and participate in team, departmental and multidisciplinary team teaching and learning activities
- Produce, analyse and present medicines expenditure reports, and support cost-improvement and medicines value programmes
- Support, and participate in, quality improvement projects designed to improve service efficiency and effectiveness, generate your own innovative ideas, and participate in research to generate new evidence
- Act as a role model, and provide mentorship and direction where needed
- Act with professionalism and ensure your ongoing competence through the principles of continuing professional development and lifelong learning
Requirements:
- Completion of a Master’s degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent)
- Full registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- A minimum of two-and-a-half years post-registration experience in pharmacy
- Demonstrable evidence of competence in general clinical practice, including medicine and surgery
- Postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy, or satisfactory evidence of equivalent competence, as demonstrated within a practice portfolio
- Applicants undertaking the JPB Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice will be expected to have completed at least two FS2 modules
- Aware of models of non-medical prescribing
- Meets expected levels of practice as defined by others
- Demonstrates a broad knowledge of pharmacy practice
Please note that the shift patterns for this role are as follows:
- Standard hours typically 9:00– 17:00
- Participation in late duties, weekend and rota-based shifts
