Band 4 - Pharmacy Technician - Kingston - London

Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust are hiring a passionate and skilled Pharmacy Technician to join their team.

Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust was established in 2024 to bring health and care services closer together for local people.

We provide community care in the London borough of Richmond, and we work in partnership with Your Healthcare who provide community care in Kingston. We also provide a full range of acute services at Kingston Hospital, and short-stay rehabilitation at Teddington Memorial Hospital.

We serve a wider population for a range of specialist services. This includes hospital and outpatient services for people in Elmbridge (Surrey), Merton, Wandsworth and Sutton, and community immunisations for most of south London.

The Role:

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will be expected to dispense and supply accurately medicines to inpatients and support the medicines optimisation service to the wards.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical:          

1.To identify prescriptions that might present risks to patients and ensure that relevant issues are resolved before dispensing.

2.To dispense prescriptions for individual patients, ensuring that they are provided with the correct medicine, in the right form, in a timely manner.

3.To counsel patients on the safe use of medicines.

4.To rotate into the Emergency Department to support with the dispensing.

Managerial:

1.To supervise Pharmacy Assistants and Pre-registration Pharmacy Technicians in dispensing medicines.

2.To review stock requirements on wards and departments by liaising with appropriate staff.

Administrative:

1.To ensure that accurate records are maintained either electronically or in paper copy.

Governance:

1.To ensure that medicines are stored in appropriate conditions.

2.To assess the suitability for reuse of stock medicines returned from wards and departments.

Team Role/Management:

1.To develop effective communication between the staff in the Pharmacy and on wards and departments.

Technical:

1.To prepare extemporaneously medication required for individual patients.

2.To assess the requirements for medicines on wards and in departments in accordance with agreed stock lists.

3.To ensure that wastage of medicines is minimised by correct stock rotation and correct storage.

4.To order and requisition stock.

5.To dispense and record the issue of Controlled Drugs.

6.To undertake regular drug stock takes.

7.To cover duties of other technicians/dispensing assistants when necessary, including working off site if required.

8.To undertake CD stock checks on wards.

9.To participate in ward top ups.

10.To complete training in Clinical Trials.

Requirements:

  • BTec in Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • NVQ level 3 in Pharmaceutical Science (or equivalent)
  • Registered as a Technician with the GPhC
  • Dispensing and supply of medicines
  • Numerate
  • Excellent communication skills on both a written and verbal basis
