Band 3 - Senior Assistant Technical Officer - Moorfields - London

Moorfields Eye Hospital are searching for an enthusiastic Band 3  Senior Assistant Technical Officer to join their highly skilled and motivated team.

The Role:

To assist in the provision of a safe and efficient patient focused clinical pharmacy service in the Pharmacy dispensaries. The post holder will be working in a patient facing area as part of the dispensary clinical pharmacy team. The post holder will work in conjunction with the Lead Pharmacy Technician for Clinical Services and the Senior Pharmacy Technicians to manage and coordinating workflow in the dispensaries, monitoring the quality of service provided and to actively promote the implementation of important Trust initiatives for out-patients services.

Responsibilities:

1. The post holder will provide support to the Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists in the Pharmacy dispensaries in accordance with relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

2. To receive prescriptions from patients for dispensing.

3. Following a period of training and assessment, to undertake the assembly of medicines for individual out/inpatients. This will involve: - Generating a label. - Choosing the correct medicine from stock. - Counting and packing the medicine. - Preparing prescriptions for checking by a Pharmacist or Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician.

4. To give out specific dispensed and checked medications with appropriate instructions to patients after appropriate training and assessment.

5. To support stock control within the dispensaries including ordering and receiving stock from Pharmacy stores and distribution and stock rotation.

6. To process prescription and over the counter payments where applicable.

7. To assist in ward stock top ups after appropriate training. This will involve: - Visiting wards/departments and creating orders for stock medicines - Filling the order - Entering issues on the computer - Ensuring wards/departments receive their stock (via porter/courier) in a timely manner

8. To be involved in stock control for ancillary stock (e.g. bottles, bags and labels) in the Pharmacy dispensaries and ensure these are available in suitable quantities.

9. To ensure that all relevant Patient Information Leaflets (PILs) are photocopied and are always available.

10. To be involved in accurate stock control of medicines in the Pharmacy dispensaries and within clinical areas.

11. To maintain clean and tidy dispensing facilities and safe systems of work including expiry date checking and correct disposal of medications.

12. To undertake mandatory training.

13. To be responsible for the filing of prescriptions on a daily basis.

14. To undertake answering the telephone and dealing with queries where necessary, including liaising with other Pharmacy staff both at City Road and at Network sites.

15. To handle medicines returned from the wards/departments and patients, making the appropriate computer records, and disposing of unwanted/expired stock following Trust policies and departmental procedures and in accordance with national guidance and legislation.

16. To assist the Lead and Senior Pharmacy Technicians in receipt of medicinal stock from Pharmaceutical wholesalers when necessary.

17. To assist in the prompt matching process of all delivery notes, orders and invoices.

18. To book and arrange deliveries of medicinal stock to Moorfields Network sites.

19. To arrange deliveries of medicines supplied on prescription to patients homes

Requirements:

  • Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent including Maths and English BTEC or NVQ level 2 in pharmaceutical services or equivalent
  • Recent experience of working in a Pharmacy Experience of working in a Pharmacy dispensary
  • Pharmacy Degree. MPharm or equivalent
  • Must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical council Pharmacist register (Active registration)
  • Supervised pharmacy experience
  • 1 year pre-registration training
