Band 7 - Sonographer - Whittington - London

The Role:

The post-holder will act as clinical specialist for ultrasound services, and in co-operation with other services and Superintendent Sonographer, contribute to the effective and efficient running of the Imaging Department.

The post-holder may be required to rotate through other clinical areas for 25% of the working week, but will remain chiefly responsible for delivery and development of ultrasound services.

The post holder will be expected to participate in the extended working day and working weekends where necessary as per AFC terms and conditions.

Main Duties:

  • Act independently in the assessment of referrals for Ultrasound examinations, taking full responsibility for the justification of general Ultrasound examinations. Supervise Sonographers in this process if required.
  • Maintain a high level of expertise in the safe operation of Ultrasound equipment and manage faults effectively.
  • To comply with and contribute to the implementation of departmental and professional policies and procedures such as:
    • Health +Safety including risk assessment and COSHH
    • ALARA principles
    • Quality Assurance Program
    • Clinical Effectiveness
    • Clinical Audit
    • Running of the Imaging Department.
  • To be able to exercise personal responsibility and make decisions in comple and unpredictable circumstances e.g. Prioritising patients according to clinical need in an ultrasound and radiological situation.  
  • To work as part of a team within the Imaging Department and the wider Trust environment to ensure effective communication and delivery of care
  • To work in a team under challenging circumstances maintaining a calm and collaborative manner at all times.
  • To raise issues appropriately and face to face with relevant individuals to resolve conflict keeping the organisational iCARE behaviours uppermost.

Requirements:

  • Diploma of College of Radiography or BSc in Radiography 
  • Registration with the HPC
  • Post graduate qualification in US
  • Computer Literate e.g. ECDL or relevant experience
  • The ability to work under physical and emotional pressure
  • Possess an organised and professional outlook on all duties
  • Ability to teach others new skills
  • To be adept in ob/gyn and general US
  • Good Communication and presentation skills
  • Organisational ability
  • Problem solving skills for highly complex situations
  • Experience of teaching/training
  • Understanding of IM&T systems in Radiology 
  • Strong leadership and willingness to help others grow
