Mental Health Healthcare Assistant (MHSW) - Band 2 - BHR University Trust

A centre of excellence, BHRUT operates from two main sites – King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford – as well as overseeing several clinics in the local area and providing specialist care across their regional Neuroscience Centre, Radiotherapy Centre, Hyper Acute Stroke Unit, and dedicated breast care services.

The Mental Health Support Worker (MHSW) – is responsible for providing care and therapeutic support to patients and their families in conjunction with the Specialist Mental Health Practitioner and directed by members of the wider multidisciplinary network, including from within the Paediatric; Adult and Older People’s Mental Health Liaison Service. The ECSW works with learning disability liaison teams, alcohol liaison teams and alcohol liaison teams.

The MHSW will work closely with patients who are prescribed 1 to 1 care, and who may need care with physical interventions. The ability to be trained in, and carry out physical interventions is a core requirement of this role

Responsibilities:

  • Taking responsibility for the well-being of our patients, including making sure their physical, emotional, and social needs are met.
  • Developing therapeutic relationships to optimise patient engagement.
  • Leading, motivating, and mentoring your team, and delivering clinical guidance and training to ensure the safe, smooth and efficient running of the unit.
  • Carrying out assessments and developing, implementing, and evaluating individualised care plans.
  • Promoting our patient’s independence, choice, dignity, and respect by delivering the very best standards of care and striving for continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 6 months Mental Health NHS Acute ward based experience within the NHS
  • 2 Satisfactory, professional references covering the last 3 years.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the UK
  • A respectful, courteous, and compassionate nature and belief in giving your personal best, at all times.
  • Excellent communication skills, and ability to liaise with other healthcare professionals and resident families.
