Moorfields NHS Trust the leading provider of eye health services in the UK and a world class centre of excellence for ophthalmic research and education is looking to appoint a Divisional Manager for a minimum of 3 months in Central London


 The post of divisional manager is a key position within the trust’s senior management structure, responsible for the management of services within the division. Divisions will be led and managed as autonomous business units and the role of the divisional manager is to provide the expert management and leadership skills to enable this.  Ultimate accountability for activity and performance of the division will jointly with the Divisional Director. 

 Reporting to the divisional director, the divisional manager has a wide range of responsibilities for ensuring the effective development and operation of the directorate’s services.  The post holder will also lead corporate projects as required and will contribute to trust wide initiatives and decision making through attendance at senior management meetings and trust wide management meetings as required. The divisional manager is responsible for the line management of staff for delivery of services including medical, nursing, allied health and administration staff.

 The post holder will support the divisional director in providing leadership to the directorate that will create an open and participative culture that enables staff to perform at their best.  The individual will be expected to promote a patient-centred culturally sensitive approach to the delivery of patient care.  Alongside the divisional director, he/she will be responsible for the delivery of the directorate’s operational and service objectives. As a senior leader within the organisation they will have a key role in the embedding of the Trusts values, the Moorfields Way.

 There is a strong performance management element to this post and the emphasis is therefore on delivery.  The post holder will support the chief operating officer to lead the development and continuous review of trust wide operational policies and processes reflecting evidence based national best practice. Alongside the divisional director the post holder will have overall responsibility for ensuring that optimal patient centred care is provided across all services delivered, within available human and financial resources. A combination of transformational change and robust transactional processes will be required to improve the experience, access and outcome of care provided within Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.  This will be achieved by a co-ordinated programme of performance improvement and organisational development.


Person specification:

Graduate level qualification or equivalent experience

Study towards or completed a Masters Level Management Qualification

Extensive experience of management within an acute NHS environment

Experience of managing large budgets and the complexities of managing high numbers of staff across a variety of disciplines
