Consultant in Diagnostic Imaging with an Interest in Breast Imaging

We provide care in a safe, caring, and inspiring environment. Currently, we are seeking a dynamic and dedicated consultant colleague to join our cohesive team in the Portsmouth Breast Unit.

Role Overview:

The successful candidate will be expected to offer the full spectrum of skills required of a modern Breast Radiologist, demonstrating enthusiasm for learning new techniques and advancing the breast service. A keen interest in Oncology imaging would be highly desirable. This role arises from the need to replace an existing colleague and is essential to meet the demands of the NHS BSP age extension trial and an increasing symptomatic breast service workload.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reporting screening and symptomatic mammograms
  • Reporting screening and symptomatic breast MRI
  • Leading and participating in assessment clinics alongside specialist breast care nurses, radiographers, radiographic department assistants, and surgeons
  • Active involvement in symptomatic fast-track clinics, including triage and performance of biopsies
  • Contribution to the general imaging workload, encompassing ultrasound, CT, and plain film reporting, with out-of-hours and weekend duties as per departmental rota
  • Supporting service redesign initiatives with flexible working arrangements, role extension, and mentoring of junior and paramedical colleagues
  • Participation in the training and supervision of Radiology Specialty Trainees and rotating Wessex SpRs
  • Involvement in departmental or Trust projects/committees, equipment procurement, administration, audit, teaching, and research
  • Collaboration with hospital clinicians and GPs to foster good working relations and ensure optimal patient care

Qualifications:

  • 6 months NHS experience in role
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice
  • Higher professional training in Radiology
  • FRCR
  • BSc, MSc (Desirable)
  • MRCP, MRCS or equivalent (Desirable)

Clinical Experience:

Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT (proposed date within 6 months), CESR, or European Community Rights is required. Experience of certified training at a UK Breast Screening Teaching Centre is advantageous.
