Bank Locum SPR Paediatrics - Portsmouth

Apply for this job

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Trust Doctor – Registrar (ST4+) to help cover gaps in the middle grade staffing due to a shortfall in registrar numbers. This is a full-time post with resident on-call. Neonatal cover is provided separately. The job will include working on the Children’s Assessment Unit, participating in ward rounds and providing cover for the in-patient wards. Supervision of more junior colleagues will be expected. There is no regular out-patient commitment in this post. The Consultants provide a consultant of the week service so close team working with both junior and senior colleagues will be required.

The successful candidate will participate in the on-call rota for general paediatrics.  There is a resident SHO and a consultant who does some resident working hours and the rest on call from home. The department has responsibility for all children admitted to the Trust, and thus when on-call the general paediatricians may be required to see children in Paediatric ED, on the children’s surgical ward, or on ITU. Occasional Child Protection work may arise out of hours, and the post holder will be expected to follow local guidelines.

As an experienced Paediatric Trust Registrar, you will ideally have:

-          Full GMC registration with a licence to practice

-          Primary medical qualification recognised by the GMC

-          Previous experience on a Middle Grade rota or equivalent in paediatrics the UK

-          Competent in practical skills required to function as a middle grade paediatrician
