UCLH specialises in women’s health and the treatment of cancer, cardiac, infection, neurological, gastrointestinal and oral disease. It has world class support services including critical care, imaging, nuclear medicine and pathology. We are also one of the only 2 centres in the UK to deliver proton beam therapy to cancer patients.

Job Summary

This is a rotational post, aimed at consolidating knowledge and experience across acute rotations at University College Hospital, University College Hospital Grafton Way Building and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. The role provides high quality patient assessment and treatment as part the specialist therapy team on each rotation.

 

Job Purpose

  • Provide specialist occupational therapy for a wide range of patients requiring assessment and rehabilitation in acute inpatient and outpatient environments.
  • To provide specialist advice and information to patients, carers, and other professionals.
  • To perform manual handling tasks such as the hoisting and/or transfer of patients, fitting and delivery of appropriate equipment,
  • To participate in evidence-based audit and service development projects relevant to the area of speciality will be carried out in conjunction with the Senior Therapists (OT/PT) to ensure high standards of care & service development are maintained and improved upon.
  • To participate in the senior rotational scheme within the following ward settings including:
    • Emergency Medicine including the Emergency Department, Same Day Emergency Care Unit, Acute Medical Unit and Enhanced Care Unit
    • Stroke (Acute Stroke Unit/ Hyper Acute Stroke Unit)
    • Elderly Medicine
    • Respiratory Medicine and Infectious diseases
    • Internal medicine
    • Oncology
    • Haematology
    • Surgery including Thoracic, Urology, Gastro and Gynaecology and Emergency surgery. 
    • Orthopaedics both Elective and Trauma
    • Teenage Cancer Unit
    • Outpatient Proton Beam Therapy 

       These may be subject to change and additional rotations may be added.

  • To be an integral member of a team assuming delegated responsibilities for supervision of students, junior and assistant members of staff.
  • To provide cover within the therapy department during periods of staff absence.
  • To participate in 7-day services on appropriate rotations

Important Requirements:

  • HCPC Registration
  • At least 6 months NHS experience in the last 3 years
  • Strong initiative and commitment to mentoring talent, acting as a role model and resource to junior staff
  • A specialist, experienced, autonomous practitioner, to be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work
  • A robust ability to assess patients with complex physical, cognitive, psychological, mental health conditions and identify their rehabilitation and care requirements
  • An honest individual with integrity, and excellent administrative, verbal, and written communication
