University College London Hospital NHS Trust – Senior Therapeutic Radiographer – Cancer Services – Band 6
Please note: This is a full time role with a requirement of working 37.5 hours a week.
University College London Hospital (UCLH) NHS Trust are seeking an enthusiastic and qualified Senior Therapeutic Radiographer to join them on a temporary basis to support their Cancer Services department within the University College Hospital.

Responsibilities:
- Work independently, or closely with the Band 7 radiographer, to coordinate the efficient, accurate patient focused planning and delivery of ionising radiation following evidence based protocols.
- To reflect upon current practice with the ultimate aim of refining and improving patient focused protocols.
- Daily evaluation of the patient’s condition, drawing on expert knowledge and experience to intervene where necessary. This may include discussion with the wider multi-disciplinary team to devise an appropriate course of action.
- Obtain further written informed consent prior to radiotherapy planning.
- Develop relationships for up to eight weeks with patients, relatives and carers; offering advice and guidance to explain the management of radiotherapy side effects.
- Assess the side effects daily, make appropriate referrals and arrange adequate follow up care.
- Use effective communication skills to provide and receive highly confidential, sensitive and complicated patient information. The radiographer must seek and maintain patient cooperation and trust using expert skills to support and empower them through the care pathway.
- Deputise for the lead practitioner in their specific field, setting an example to junior staff and being available to advise colleagues in other areas.
- Demonstrates safe use and maintenance of expensive, specialist equipment used by self and others, using quality assurance methods.
Important Requirements:
- Degree level qualification or equivalent in Therapeutic Radiography.
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Radiographer.
- At least 6 months NHS experience in the last 3 years.
- Practical experience in planning and delivering a wide range of radiotherapy techniques.
- Demonstrate a broad knowledge of radiography practice.
- Commitment to providing a high-quality, professional, caring service to all patients.
- Excellent administrative, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Experience of working as a team.
