University College London Hospital NHS Trust – Senior Hand Therapist – Band 6
Please note: This is a full-time role with a requirement of working 37.5 hours a week.
University College London Hospital (UCLH) NHS Trust are seeking an enthusiastic and qualified Senior Hand Therapist to join them on a temporary basis to support their Musculoskeletal Outpatient Therapy Services department within the University College Hospital.

Responsibilities:
- Carries out complex standardised and non-standardised Hand Therapy assessments of physical and functional ability, cognition, home situation and psychosocial issues.
- Provides highly specialised Hand Therapy, including wound care, manual therapy and specialised splinting, in multiple settings according to patient need.
- Sensitively deals with distressing or emotional circumstances regarding patient care e.g. communicating news of poor prognoses such as chronic pain management or lifelong disability or conveying news of realistic outcomes following injury or surgery.
- Provides education to patients, carers, relatives and other health care professionals in the management of the patient’s condition.
- Monitors, reviews and modifies treatment plans/goals to measure progress and ensure effective outcomes under the guidance of more experienced therapists as required.
- Responsible for the safe manual handling of patients during mobility and functional transfers.
- Provides one to one patient care or group work depending on individual requirements.
- Demonstrates specialised clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of evidenced based practice to underpin patient care.
- Applies a good level of understanding of complex disability issues and provides specialised advice, training, support & information to patients and carers regarding aspect of Hand Therapy.
- Demonstrates an ability to triage patients within the Hand Therapy service according to clinical need.
- Identifies complex patient presentations and seeks assistance from senior team members as appropriate.
- Promotes the role of Hand Therapist within the MDT.
Important Requirements:
- Degree level qualification or equivalent in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy.
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
- At least 6 months NHS experience in the last 3 years.
- Practical experience in planning and delivering a wide range of hand therapy techniques.
- Demonstrate a broad knowledge of hand therapy practice.
- Commitment to providing a high-quality, professional, caring service to all patients.
- Excellent administrative, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Experience of working as a team.
