Physiotherapist Paediatrics – Band 6 – Hounslow

Hounslow & Richmond Community Healthcare Trust are currently searching for a dedicated physiotherapist to work as part of their incredible Nursing team Childrens services team in Hounslow.

HRCH provides community health services for around 523,000 people registered with GPs in the London boroughs of Hounslow and Richmond. The Trust currently employ around 1,300 people, who work across a wide range of health centres, hospitals, GP surgeries, children’s centres, local council facilities and in community settings – including in people’s homes. This helps people across the community to stay well, manage their own health with the right support and avoid stays in hospital.

Role Purpose:

  • To assess and manage own caseload of patients, make a diagnosis, and to develop and deliver individual specialised physiotherapy treatment programmes.
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner within the standards of professional practice laid down by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and Health Professions Council.
  • To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team, to deliver holistic care packages to children on the caseload, working in a range of settings including special and mainstream schools, early years centres and clients’ homes. Often this involves working as a lone clinician.
  • To handle the mental, emotional and psycho-social aspects of working in Community Paediatrics including the management of children with complex / life limiting conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • To undertake comprehensive assessments of patients with a diverse range of complex presentations and multiple pathologies. To use investigative and analytical clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to make an accurate diagnosis, prognosis, intervention and discharge plan.
  • To formulate and deliver individual specialist paediatric physiotherapy treatment programmes based on evidence based practice, using manual physiotherapy techniques, hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, equipment, splinting, plastering, patient & carer education, exercise classes and other alternatives.
  • To assess for, order, assemble and adjust specialist equipment e.g. walking aids, standing frames, orthoses and footwear etc, and provide training to parents / carers to ensure safe use.
  • To educate and to monitor others, including education staff / parents / carers, in the delivery of treatment programmes.
  • To undertake the measurement and evaluation of your intervention through the use of goal orientated treatment plans and outcome measures.
  • To be familiar with and adhere to the Children’s Act, Children’s National Service Framework (NSF) and Child Protection policy, and other relevant legislation relating to the care of children and their families.
  • To contribute to the statutory assessment of Children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and annual reviews of statements of SEN.
  • To carry out Manual Handling Risk Assessment for all children on your caseload.

 Important Requirements:

  • HCPC PIN
  • At least 6 months Physiotherapy experience in that last 3 years
  • 2 years’ experience working in paediatrics (Essential)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A caring, empathetic approach to all patients
  • A proactive and professional work ethic
