Job purpose


Through an holistic approach, to provide a competent standard of occupational therapy service, facilitating and maximizing patient potential within the service boundaries. Rotations include: cardiology, care of the elderly, acute stroke, stroke rehabilitation, orthopedics/trauma, surgery, orthogeriatric, acute frailty, renal, gastroenterology

To participate in the Band 5 rotational scheme which involves working across the Trust.

Job summary

 To perform occupational therapy assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical, cognitive and psychological/mental health conditions.  To provide a diagnosis of functional status, to develop and deliver an individualised treatment plan.To hold responsibility for own case load and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working with access to direct supervision.  Supervision takes the form of formal training, clinical reasoning sessions and peer review.  Access to advice and supper from a senior occupational therapist is available as required, clinical work is routinely evaluated.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.  demonstrating time management and planning skills.

 To supervise performance, as directed by senior occupational therapist, of less experience occupational therapists, assistants and students; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with the senior occupational therapist to ensure the standards of practice of the department are met.

 To occasionally undertake evidence-based departmental audit and research projects, as directed by senior occupational therapist, to further own and teams clinical practice within each rotation.  May make recommendations to clinical lead/manager of service for changes to practice by the team.

  To carry out other duties deemed necessary by the Lead/Head clinician in discussion with the post holder to ensure adequate provision of service.
