UCLH are looking for a metabolic dietitian to join the metabolic team and other members of the neurosciences team based at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
The clinical work would be in adult inborn errors, which is outpatient focused. We are seeking a dynamic, flexible and innovative dietitian. This is a great opportunity for training on dietary management of metabolic disorders via in house and local teaching sessions.
Main duties include but are not limited to:
- To provide highly specialist nutrition advice to patients, their carers and HCPs through formulation of treatment and education plans and prescription of dietary intervention. This involves the collection and interpretation of anthropometry, requesting and interpretation of biochemistry, consideration of the financial implications and distress to the patient, their clinical profile and individual dietary information.
- To interpret this information and apply clinical judgement and reasoning to assess, evaluate and monitor nutritional status and implement appropriate evidence based changes to dietary interventions if indicated.
- To make recommendations to the medical staff regarding changes to medications for the nutritional management of patients based on interpretation of biochemical, physiological and dietary parameters.
- To use Trust policies, national guidelines, available research and the individual patient information in clinical decision making and reasoning with little supervision.
- To provide the catering department with expert advice on special diets and arrange the provision of specific dietary items or modifications to ensure patients nutritional needs are met.
- Reporting biochemical results to patients and providing supportive dietary advice
- Responding to patient queries – via telephone or email
- Analysis of patient diet diaries
Essential Requirements:
- Availability to work Full time (37.5 hours per week). Monday – Friday, 09:00 – 17:00.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a band 6 to 7 Dietitian or equivalent
- Four-year degree in Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent
- HCPC registered
- Experience of service development
- Communication, teamwork, flexibility
Desirable Requirements:
- Metabolic experience would be desirable but not essential
- NHS experience would be desirable but not essential
- Outpatient experience would be desirable but not essential
- Member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) or equivalent association
- Post registration training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
- Post graduate study in specialist area of dietetics e.g. PENG course, paediatric/renal modules
