UCLH are looking for a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join for a short contract until 31.03.25 as a Band 4 over the ‘Winter Pressures’ period. The post is based at University College Hospital, working across the acute wards with a variety of patients and under the daily direction of a qualified Speech and Language Therapist (SLT). It would suit someone interested in applying to train as an SLT.
Main duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist the SLTs in providing a clinical service to in-patients with communication and/or swallowing problems, as delegated and directed by a qualified SLT.
- Liaise with families and community SLT colleagues for handovers.
- Maintain accurate records in line with RCSLT professional and Trust standards.
- Develop a working knowledge of relevant procedures including safeguarding adults and escalate/report any concerns.
- Understand the rationale behind therapy tasks and activities set by the SLT.
- Assist with gathering data for audits e.g. food provided at mealtimes, safe storage of thickening powders.
- Obtain feedback from patients/families.
- Complete admin tasks
- Develop and organise resources.
- Manage equipment inventories.
Essential Requirements
- Must be able to commit to full time working pattern
- Great communication, collaboration, interpersonal skills.
Desirable Requirements
- Evidence of working within the NHS, social care or equivalent is desirable but not essential.
- Interested in applying to train as an SLT.
