Occupational Therapist - Band 6 - Hounslow & Richmond Community Healthcare

Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust are looking for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to work with their fantastic Children’s Occupational Therapy team in Hounslow.

HRCH employs approximately 1,300 people who work in clinics, hospitals, primary care offices, children's centres, municipal government structures, and private homes. Nonetheless, the group provides a wide range of more specialist services to a bigger community in South-West London. HRCH assist individuals in keeping their health in the community, taking control of their own treatment, and preventing hospitalisations by providing the required tools.

The Children’s Occupational Therapy team is part of the Children’s Therapy Service, which also includes Speech & Language Therapy and Physiotherapy. It works in close partnership with education and social care to deliver a high quality service to children and their families in Hounslow and Richmond.

Role Responsibilities:

  • To be accountable for the development, delivery, and quality of services for children with complex occupational therapy needs who have an EHCP and attend a specialist educational provision. These provisions include specialist primary and secondary schools and units for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The therapist will ensure the service provided is effective, well-coordinated and responsive to changing needs in the local population across HRCH.
  • The therapist will be responsible for providing relevant education professionals with specialist knowledge/training/advice in the field of Occupational Therapy
  • To provide clinical supervision for junior therapists treating patients, and working with students, volunteers, and assistants.
  • To ensure effective joint working practice between own service, other Occupational Therapists and other relevant professionals in the fields of health, education, the voluntary sector social services etc
  • To manage a complex caseload of children with a range of neurological and a developmental disability. To use clinical reasoning, critical thinking. and psychometric testing to assess children with complex difficulties. To implement treatment programmes using a client-centred approach and current evidence based practice.
  • To promote, maintain and develop a high quality, efficient and effective Occupational Therapy service for children referred to the OT Service.
  • To provide a more structured framework of advice for Education staff working with children with OT needs through a programme of formal training modules.
  • To be actively involved in implementing clinical service policies, be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team and participate in specific projects as agreed and supported by the Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist and Clinical Services Manager. To participate in service developments, audit, and review of the service
  • it is expected that the post holder will be actively developing their knowledge and experience with increasing responsibility and independence, whilst receiving the regular supervision and support of the Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist

Important Requirements:

  • At least 6 months experience in the last 3 years
  • Must be a driver
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A caring, empathetic approach to all patients
  • A proactive and professional work ethic
