Welcome to the GOSH Staff Bank

A big welcome to the GOSH Nursing & HCA Staff Bank, we’re very grateful to have you on board.

At Bank Partners, our aim is to make sure that it’s easy for you to work flexible shifts in a supportive, professional environment. We’ve included below some key information that you might find useful as you start your journey with us.

Booking and working shifts

Booking shifts

As a substantive member of staff, you already have access to EOL, the Employee OnLine booking system. By navigating to Bank Duties, you will be able to book additional shifts.

If you would prefer to call us to book your shifts or submit your availability, you can do so by calling the team on 0207 959 3567, option 1, option 1.

Please be aware you do not need to submit timesheets for shifts worked through Healthroster unless you have worked under or over the booked hours. Otherwise, this will be actioned/authorised by managers by Midnight on Tuesday.

Induction

You are required to attend the Trust’s Corporate Welcome Induction, details of this induction will be provided to you separately.rnrnIn addition, and in line with external requirements set by the NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA) Risk Management Standards (RMS) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC), all new employees must attend this compulsory programme. The induction offers an important opportunity to learn about the organisation, as well as essential policies and procedures. Booking confirmation for this induction will be provided to you separately.rnrnPlease note that failure to complete both inductions will result in your removal from the BHRUT Staff Bank register.

Cancelling a shift

We understand that circumstances can change, and you may occasionally need to cancel a scheduled work shift. To ensure a smooth and efficient process, please follow the procedures below:

More than three days’ notice:
If you need to cancel your shift with more than three days’ notice, please complete our online cancellation form. This form collects all the necessary information so we can process your cancellation promptly and accurately.

Less than three days’ notice:
If you need to cancel your shift within three days of the scheduled date, please contact our Bookings Team directly. You can reach them by calling 0333 188 1917 during working hours. The Bookings Team will assist you with processing the last‑minute cancellation and ensuring a smooth transition.

It is important to notify the Bookings Team as soon as possible so they can make the necessary adjustments to the schedule and attempt to find a suitable replacement. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in following this guideline.

Flexibility when working

As with all NHS Staff Banks, you may be asked by the Trust to work in a different setting on occasions to the one which you have booked. This will always be with patient safety in mind, and we appreciate your flexibility and understanding.

Stay within the 48-hour weekly limit

To protect your wellbeing and stay compliant with the Working Time Directive, please ensure your total working hours average no more than 48 hours per week over any Monday–Sunday period, typically calculated across a 17-week reference period.

If you wish to opt out of the Working Time Directive please contact our team.

Support after a shift

As well as our Bookings Team, we have a dedicated team who can support with aftercare of a shift. You can call the Customer Support team on 0207 959 3567, option 3. This team can support with shifts that are finalised but not paid, sickness queries, Tax related queries such as P45/P60 (from bank only) etc. Please note, your payslips will be sent to you separate to your substantive shifts, as they are on different systems.

Uniform & ID cards

You will also already have your ID badge from your substantive post and we ask you to keep this on you throughout your shifts.

You will also have Uniform from your substantive post, and this is the same uniform to be worn on Bank shifts. You will find further information regarding uniform in the linked GOSH Nursing and HCA Staff Bank Handbook.

GOSH Nursing and HCA Staff Bank Handbook

For further useful information, please ensure you download and read the GOSH Nursing and HCA Staff Bank Handbook.

Your compliance

Your compliance is held with the Trust, please liaise with your line manager or the learning team should you need any further assistance.

Leaving the Trust

In the future, you may find yourself with a different job and leaving your employment with GOSH, or you would prefer to work Bank-Only instead of full time, and you wish to remain on the bank to complete ad-hoc shifts. This option is available to you, and we encourage you to complete our Trust Leaver application form as soon as you have notified your manager of this decision.

There are a few checks that need to be completed before we can allow you to work shifts as a Bank Only member of staff once your leave date has passed, such as Human resource references, Line Manager approval, DBS and Occupational Health checks etc. You should not book or agree to work until you receive our Welcome Email, as this signifies you have been cleared to work. If you do so before this email is sent, you will likely not have access to EPIC meaning you can’t work once arrived, or any pay for that shift may be delayed.
