Barts Health NHS Trust are searching for an experienced Breast Consultant Radiologist to join their highly skilled team.

The Role:

The advertised post is for a full time Breast Radiologist based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. All breast imaging services at St Bartholomew’s hospital are located in the West Wing, a state-of-the-art breast unit funded by the Lord Mayor of London’s Appeal which opened in 2005. This unit offers unparalleled diagnostic services and is amongst the best-equipped in the UK. Barts Health Breast Network Service encompasses 3 sites; St Bartholomew’s Hospital, Whipps Cross Hospital, and Newham University General Hospital. The successful candidate may be required to travel to these sites to provide cover for leave on an ad hoc basis.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our dynamic team to help deliver the service and to support an active training programme. An interest in teaching and training is welcomed to help establish a more extensive training and teaching portfolio. Continuing interest and previous experience in breast imaging research is desirable in the successful candidate.

Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate experience in breast imaging including diagnostic mammography, ultrasound examinations, ultrasound guided biopsies, stereotactic and vacuum biopsies, FNAs and wire localisations under ultrasound and mammographic guidance. Candidates should also have experience in reporting breast MRIs, and previous contrast mammography experience is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to present at breast MDT meetings on a rotational basis. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate professional excellence and the ability to deliver effective care. They will need to agree levels of activity and throughput with the Lead Breast Consultant, Imaging Clinical Director and Breast Imaging Manager. These activity levels will be aligned to the capacity and demand of the department.

Applicants should possess the FRCR or equivalent and be fully registered with the GMC. Applicants should have experience of symptomatic breast radiology at consultant level. Experience of general cross-sectional radiology is advantageous and an interest in oncological radiology would be of benefit, although applications from candidates wishing to work purely within breast imaging are also welcome. Applicants will be required to adhere to the Trust’s policy on Maintaining Medical Excellence and to be committed to maintaining their standard of performance by keeping their knowledge and skills up to date.

Requirements:

  • MB BS or equivalent or equivalent
  • CCST (or within 3 months of date of interview) or on specialist register
  • Subspecialty training in breast radiology
  • Experience of research, presentations to learned societies.
