Barts Health NHS Trust are searching for a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist to join their highly skilled team.

Job Purpose:
The post holder will practise as a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist. Undertake vital technical and scientific tests within the Clinical Biochemistry Department, which support the
diagnosis and treatment of disease.
The post holder can be deployment acoss different work areas of the laboratory and at different ESEL laboratories. The post holder must participate in an Agenda for Change shift
system.
The Post-holder will work alongside the staff in Clinical Biochemistry to develop a culture in which members of staff are continuously improving the delivery of high quality services.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and specialist laboratory techniques in accordance with department
    standard operating procedures.
  • Assess situations that may compromise service delivery. Respond by initiating
    appropriate countermeasures and monitor progression.
  • Participate in the remedy of laboratory issues which have been escalated.
  • Evaluate the authenticity of patient results and implement countermeasures in
    accordance with standard to operating procedures.
  • Perform maintenance on laboratory instrumentation in accordance with standard
    operating procedures.
  • Instigate unplanned maintenance to remedy instrument or assay non-conformity.
  • Liaise with manufacturer engineers to remedy faults encountered and instigate
    verification of works undertaken.
  • Ensure that relevant documentation is accurate, current and confirms to the written
    specifications directed by the Quality management system.
  • Corroborate with laboratory team, manufacturers, material suppliers and service users to
    optimise service delivery.
  • Participate in the research and development of new diagnostic techniques and their
    introduction to the department.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new laboratory equipment.

Requirements:

  • Worked as an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist. In a busy, acute medical clinical chemistry laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to cope with competing priorities.
  • Demonstrates an ability to respond to change.
  • Experienced in a variety of diagnostics techniques in Clinical Biochemistry.
  • Experienced using computerised laboratory information system.
  • Experienced evaluating the authenticity of patient results.
