Job Summary:

To work within the Facilities Management Team throughout the Trust.

The Facilities Service Assistant will be an active team member working closely with their colleagues and team leaders and with nursing staff, department staff and site managers to achieve and maintain a safe, clean and hygienic environment for all our patients, visitors and staff.  Ensuring the service is carried out in a professional, efficient, friendly and polite manner, and that all appropriate materials and equipment are used in conjunction with COSHH, Health and Safety Legislation, Trust, NPSA and local policies. Comply with the latest Infection control policies at all times.

Main Duties and Responsibilites:

  • Undertake all general cleaning duties to a high standard within your daily assigned areas.
  • High and low dusting of all surfaces to include furniture, fixtures and fittings, bed frames, examination couches, curtain rails and lampshades.
  • Cleaning of all doors, internal glass, and spot cleaning of walls, partitions and mirrors.
  • Cleaning of sanitary areas, to include sinks, showers, baths, WC’s and sluice rooms.
  • Cleaning of floor areas, to include sweeping, vacuuming, mopping and buffing using various floor machines.
  • Emptying all rubbish containers including clinical waste, having an awareness of the risks of infected waste, securing and labelling of bags, placing at appropriate collection point and cleaning rubbish container.
  • Restocking all disposables and consumables and putting away domestic stores.
  • Clean kitchen area to include defrosting freezers, cleaning trolleys and trays, cupboards, drawers and work surfaces.
  • Preparation and distribution of breakfast and beverages in line with Hospital Policy.
  • Assist Nursing staff/Housekeepers with distribution of lunch and supper meals and cleaning away of all trays, which will include close liaison with patients and a high degree of interpersonal skills.
  • Collect and distribute patient’s water jugs, wash up all glasses, cutlery and crockery using pantry dishwashers.
  • Remove soiled linen and disposable curtains, hang clean curtains and bag/label for laundry, using safety steps in pairs where practicable.
  • Stripping and making beds in visitor’s rooms and on-call rooms.

Requirements:

  • Previous cleaning experience
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Experience of using buffing machine/hanging curtains
  • To be able to follow instructions, policies and procedures
