The Role:

Working closely with pediatricians, surgeons, and multidisciplinary teams, you will administer treatments, monitor vital signs and clinical progress, manage pain, and maintain strict safeguarding standards. Beyond clinical tasks, you will play a vital role in supporting families, explaining diagnoses in accessible ways, obtaining parental consent, and providing reassurance during high-pressure or traumatic situations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Patient Assessment & Monitoring: Track vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, temperature, and respiration), evaluate clinical recovery, and record accurate patient notes.

Administer medications, manage intravenous (IV) infusions, dress wounds, and assist with specialized medical or surgical procedures.

Family Support & Education: Counsel parents and guardians, offer home-care guidance, and help families cope with acute, chronic, or palliative diagnoses.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Partner with doctors, health visitors, social workers, and school health teams to coordinate seamless patient care.

Safeguarding & Compliance: Uphold child protection guidelines, maintain confidential clinical records, and escalate safety or welfare concerns immediately.

Requirements:

  • NMC Registered Paediatric Nurse (RSCN / RN Child branch or equivalent)
  • At least 6 months relevant experience at the NHS within the last 3 years
  • Clinical assessment skills
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • IT and Electronic Patient Record (EPR)
  • Time management and prioritization
