Adult Community Speech and Language Therapist - Band 6 - London

Hounslow & Richmond Community Healthcare Trust are currently searching for a dedicated Adult Community Speech and Language Therapist to work as part of their incredible team in Hounslow.

HRCH provides community health services for around 523,000 people registered with GPs in the London boroughs of Hounslow and Richmond. The Trust currently employ around 1,300 people, who work across a wide range of health centres, hospitals, GP surgeries, children’s centres, local council facilities and in community settings – including in people’s homes. This helps people across the community to stay well, manage their own health with the right support and avoid stays in hospital.

JOB OVERVIEW: 

We would like an experienced speech and language therapist to join our innovative and well-supported team on a bank contract.   

The post includes working with preschool and school aged children in a variety of settings including clinics and schools.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate an ability to work flexibly and use their initiative to deliver a responsive and quality service.  Applications will be considered from candidates who have at least 2-3 years’ experience

Main Duties of the job

The successful candidate will carry their own individual specialist caseload of children with complex speech, language and communication (SLC) needs. 

The role will also include giving advice and training to parent/carers and/or education staff with regard to supporting children's SLC development.

The role will also include supporting less experienced therapists with specific caseload queries and may include delivering internal training to the children's therapies team depending on the experience/developing specialism of the successful candidate 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision.
  2. To provide shared SLT support to the Neuro-Timely service
  3. To work as a member of the speech and language therapy team, contributing to the planning, development and delivery of an effective and efficient service.
  4. To contribute, as a member of the speech and language therapy team, to the evaluation and audit of practice.
  5. This may lead to the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols/care pathways.
  6. To liaise with other involved agencies and with clients and carers to provide an integrated service.
  7. To deliver training to nursing homes on safe feeding and when to refer to SLT

Richmond Speech and Language Therapy Service is a well-established, integrated and supportive team which is jointly commissioned by Health and Education. The department is part of the Therapies team and managed by the service manager working closely together as part of an integrated department. There is a strong commitment within the team to CPD and professional development at all levels including a commitment to share skills and knowledge between colleagues

 Important Requirements:

  • Degree and professional Speech and Language Therapy qualification
  • Registered with Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • At least 6 months Speech & Language Therapy experience in that last 3 years
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A caring, empathetic approach to all patients
  • A proactive and professional work ethic
