Job Summary

This post participates in an 8-9month rotation scheme. The current rotation options include: A&E/AMU, Critical Care (T03 and Grafton Way Building (GWB)), Thoracic and Urology Surgery, Head and Neck Surgery, Gynae Surgery, Prehabilitation, Respiratory Outpatients, Respiratory Inpatients, Haematology, Macmillan Cancer Centre (Teenage and Young Adult Service), Care of the Elderly and Internal Medicine. The post holder will be responsible for the provision of Physiotherapy to patients across within the speciality. This role is supported by Team Lead Physiotherapists and/or Clinical Specialists.

Job Purpose

  • To perform advanced physiotherapy assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical, psychological and emotional conditions. 
  • To provide a diagnosis, develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme in discussion with the patient and according to assessment findings.
  • To provide experienced advice, guidance and information to patients, carers and other professionals.
  • To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner, taking responsibility for caseload management in a defined area of the service; seeking support where necessary from senior staff.
  • To engage with the MDT in a defined area and represent therapies as required
  • To participate in the rotational programme.
  • To be an integral member of a team assuming delegated responsibilities for supervision, assessment and education of students, Band 5 and assistant members of staff.
  • To undertake a rotational projects to develop and enhance personal, team and departmental clinical practice. 
  • To undertake on-call and weekend duties as an autonomous practitioner, working without supervision and to support the introduction of flexible working patterns if deemed necessary by the service manager.
  • To participate in 7-day services rota where appropriate  

Important Requirements:

  • Degree in Physiotherapy and HCPC registered
  • At least 6 months NHS experience in that last 3 years
  • Strong clinical knowledge, good initiative, and an ability to stay calm and work efficiently under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Honesty and integrity, and a caring approach to patients
