Band 2 - Healthcare Support Worker - Portsmouth

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust are searching for a passionate Healthcare Support Worker to join their highly skilled team.

This role is a 1 year fixed term, undertaking both screening and symptomatic breast work to support our large breast unit.  Symptomatic and breast screening is both undertaken at our site and PHU diagnose and treat 700 breast cancers per year. 

Job Purpose:

  • To work flexibly across care services.
  • To support registered nursing staff in the provision high quality standards of clinical care to the patients.
  • To adhere to all Isle of Wight NHS Trust Policies, Protocols, Procedures and guidelines. 

Main Duties:

  • Work in collaboration with colleagues to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe and compassionate care and support.
  • To deliver direct care, treatment and emotional support for patients as required in line with the IOW NHS Trusts protocols/policies/procedures/guidelines.
  • To contribute to the assessment, implementation and monitoring of patients, identifying physical and/or psychological problems and liaising with the appropriate member of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To assist in the day to day organisation of the service, carrying out duties as delegated by the Ward/Department Sister/Charge Nurse/Manager or delegated Deputy.
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times
  • Maintain high quality standards of care in an environment which promotes equality and sensitivity for all individuals.

Requirements:

  • Good basic education
  • Basic IT skills
  • Physically capable of performing the role and responsibilities expected of the post holder e.g. manual handling of patients
  • Able to use initiative to cope in a variety of situations
  • Good time management skills
  • Ability to maintain effectiveness under pressure
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Act in ways that support equality and diversity
  • Be willing to take part in training and development opportunities
  • Ability to adapt to change within working situation
  • Previous care experience desirable, but not essential
  • Able to be flexible in relation to service demands
