Band 3 - Patient Transport Services Care Assistant or Driver - Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust are searching for a Patient Transport Services Care Assistant/Driver to join their highly skilled team.

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is an NHS trust which provides physical health, mental health and ambulance services for the Isle of Wight. The trust is unique in being the only integrated acute, community, mental health and ambulance health care provider in England.

The Trust was established in April 2012 as the only fully integrated provider of health services to an isolated offshore population of 140,000.

The Role:

  • To drive Trust vehicles under normal road traffic conditions
  • Assists patients as required e.g. administers medical gasses, first aid.
  • To drive Trust vehicles as directed including; Advanced skills for minibus/ ambulance driving
  • Transports patients for appointments and treatments at a variety of locations
  • Transportation of, staff, goods and equipment at a variety of locations
  • Moving and Lifting patients in wheelchairs, stretchers with aids

Requirements:

  • Driving experience of a range of vehicles
  • 3 GCSE’s to include Maths and English (Grade C or above) Or equivalent qualifications or experience
  • Knowledge of Island topography
  • In good physical health – able to lift equipment and parcels.
  • Frequent moderate effort for several short/ long periods.
  • Calm and caring nature, able to deal with distressing or emotive situations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain calm. enthusiastic and loyal
  • Smart appearance
  • Excellent communicator
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain calm
  • Work as part of a team / solo as required
  • Shows initiative and well organised
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Able to take instruction in various  situations
  • Able to verbally communicate with staff in various scenarios
  • Provide and receive routine information requiring tact or persuasive
  • skills; barriers to understanding, Exchanges information with patients, relatives requiring empathy and reassurance
  • Record personally generated information
  • Maintains records
