Band 2 - Facilities Multi-Skilled Operative - Isle of Wight

Isle Of Wight NHS Trust are recruiting for a Facilities Multi-Skilled Operative to join their highly skilled team.

The Trust was established in April 2012 as the only fully integrated provider of health services to an isolated offshore population of 140,000.

Job Purpose:

This is a multi-skilled role to provide an effective, patient-focused Facilities Service (FM) in the delivery of cleaning, portering and catering.

Cleanliness – Provide high-quality cleaning services to hospital wards and departments, including specialist cleaning tasks to maintain strict cleanliness standards.

Portering - Provide portering services across hospital wards and departments, communicating with staff and completing tasks professionally and efficiently.

Catering - A multi-skilled catering role supporting cleaning, food preparation, customer service, and the delivery of patient meals to ensure high-quality catering services.

Waste - Provide a professional and timely clinical waste collection service, including transporting clinical and confidential waste and ensuring it is correctly segregated and labelled for external collection.

Job Summary:

Work across the Trust departments to deliver cleaning, portering, waste management, and catering services to high standards, ensuring compliance with all policies, safety procedures, and documentation requirements.

Maintain approved cleaning standards, including specialist and decontamination tasks, correct use of equipment, stock control, waste segregation, and cleanliness of clinical and waste areas, reporting issues and ensuring compliance at all times.

Provide full portering and patient services including transfers by bed, wheelchair, stretcher, and internal ambulance, handling deceased patients, supporting major incidents, fire response, medical gas changes, and transporting specimens, blood products, equipment, notes, medication, and supplies.

Support catering operations through delivery of food service duties including food preparation, serving meals for patients, staff, and visitors. Cleaning kitchens and dining areas, operating dishwashing and waste systems, replenishing service areas, monitoring equipment, and ensuring accurate recording of food waste and compliance with hygiene and safety regulations.

Requirements:

  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Functional literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to undertake the duties of the role (GCSE English and Maths or equivalent experience).
  • Evidence of good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of working in a team with groups of diverse staff.
  • Able to maintain effectiveness under pressure.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing situations.
  • Ability to use own initiative.
