The Role:

Joining the General Medicine Team places you at the core of The Whittington's daily operations. We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Consultant to bolster our ranks. As a pivotal member, you will assume crucial responsibilities within our two admission/short stay wards, encompassing a total of 34 beds, and our renowned Ambulatory Care Unit.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will undertake shifts in the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU), covering part or full weeks on a 1:3 week rotation (5 days out of every 15), with shifts running from 08:00 to 14:00. AAU morning shifts entail conducting ward rounds (typically 16-18 patients) on one of the AAU wards, supervising the team, providing educational support, and conducting work-based assessments for junior doctors. Two acute medicine wards are operational, each overseen by a dedicated acute medical consultant from Monday to Friday. Each ward maintains a minimum staffing level of 5 healthcare professionals, including IMT/ACCS/SHO equivalent team members, 1 registrar, FY2 equivalent/clinical fellow, and advanced clinical practitioners, operating between 08:00 and 18:00. Requirements:

  • Full GMC registration and relevant UK-based experience.
  • Completion of CCT in Medicine or equivalent, or within six months of obtaining it at the time of application.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and the capacity to thrive within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to education and a passion for supporting the professional development of junior colleagues.
