We are currently looking for an experienced Contracts Manager who has experience within the Legal field. Legal experience is essential.  

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Commercial Research

  • Negotiate and agree contractual and financial terms on commercial contracts with, senior research staff, pharmaceutical companies, Contract Research Organisations (CROs),.
  • Regularly liaise with UCL & UCLH based investigators, UCLH  service service support divisions, UCL Clinical Trial Units and the appropriate costing team to ensure each party understands and agrees to the relevant costing information. 3. liaise with external solicitors to provide specialist legal advice to investigators on their contractual obligations, regulatory issues and research management in the implementation of commercial research policy, e.g. implementation of the EU Clinical Trials Directive, Data Protection Act, Human Tissue Act, Material Transfer, Intellectual Property
  • Identify the appropriate type of contract required for new projects: e.g. consultancy; research funding; data registry; clinical trial; medical device research agreements
  • Identify and reduce wherever possible any potential liabilities to the Trust under research and development connected contracts
  • Instruct external solicitors to draft contracts/precedents or advise on technical legal matters where necessary
  • Ensure Principal Investigators/research staff are aware whenever possible of their responsibilities under the agreements and any contractual and/or financial terms relevant to their research
  • Provide training on commercial research procedure as and when required

Sponsored Studies

  • Advise on all contractual matters, particularly in relation to risk management of clinical trials sponsored by UCL or UCLH, e.g. relevant terms within drug supply agreements, drug distribution agreements, data protection act issues, confidentiality issues, consultancy agreements, technical/services agreements, indemnities, intellectual property

Non-commercial Research

  • Provide specialist legal advice to investigators on their contractual obligations, regulatory issues and research management in the implementation of non-commercial research policy, e.g. implementation of the EU Clinical Trials Directive, Data Protection Act, Human Tissue Act, Material Transfer, Intellectual Property
  • Identify the appropriate type of contract required for new projects: e.g. consultancy; research funding; data registry; clinical trial; medical device research agreements
  • Identify and reduce wherever possible risks to the Trust under the contracts
  • Instruct external solicitors to draft relevant contracts where necessary
  • Ensure Principal Investigators/research staff are aware whenever possible of their responsibilities under the agreements and any contractual and/or financial terms relevant to their research

Intellectual Property

  • Publicise and increase awareness of IP matters within the Trust

Human Tissue Act and Data Protection Act

  • Assist with the implementation of the Human Tissue Act policy
  • Assist with the implementation of the Data Protection Act policy
  • To undertake any other duties, which may be required from time to time, as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and needs of the service.
