 Job Role

The Senior Payroll Administrator is responsible for the production of a client payroll, and carries significant responsibility for planning and organising the workload to ensure accurate and timely production of weekly and monthly payrolls.

To produce payroll output in compliance with statutory regulations and requirements (including HM Revenue and Customs Regulations, NHS Pension Scheme Regulations, Data Protection and Freedom of Information Acts) to ensure employer/client obligations are met, and employment/client policies and procedures including Standing Financial Instructions.

The primary responsibilities of the post holder are:

- The accurate and timely production of weekly and monthly payrolls without supervision
- Compliance with statutory regulations and requirements (including HM Revenue and Customs Regulations, NHS Pension Scheme Regulations, Data Protection and Freedom of Information Acts) to ensure employer/client obligations are met
- Compliance with employment client policies and procedures including Standing  Financial Instructions
- Effective customer focused liaison with clients/employees

Essential Experience:

- Strong numeric skills.
- Strong analytical, problem solving an decision making skills, using judgement to identify complex areas of investigation. Self directed ability to manage own workload, and plan, organise and prioritise workload to meet strict   deadlines.
- Ability to work unsupervised and under own initiative.
- Ability to analyse and interpret complex payroll data and calculations, and identify errors and discrepancies and use sound judgement when taking corrective action.
- Commitment to team working.
- Good level of IT literacy skills including ability to use word, spreadsheet and email applications.
-- Ability to work under pressure. Strong commitment to quality and customer focused services.
- Ability to input high volumes of data accurately and efficiently in accordance with strict deadlines.

Desirable Experience:

- Minimum GCSE in Maths and English (Grades A-C)
- Payroll NVQ Level 3 (or relevant experience) CIPP qualified
- Detailed and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of NHS terms and conditions of employment 
- Detailed and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of NHS payroll and pensions procedures and practises, and employment practises.
- Detailed and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of statutory regulations (i.e. HM Revenue and Customs).
- Detailed and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of NHS pension scheme regulations.
- Detailed and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of computerised payroll systems.
- Knowledge and understanding of equal opportunities and health and safety. Knowledge and understanding of local  confidentiality policies and, Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act.
