The child first and always

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence in child healthcare. Together with its research partner with the University College London Institute of Child Health (ICH), it forms the UK's only academic biomedical research centre specialising in paediatrics. The Trust's mission is to provide world-class clinical care, pioneering new research and treatments in partnership with others for the benefit of children and young people in the UK and worldwide.

To ensure they achieve this, GOSH focus its efforts on three key priorities: safety for all who come into their care; increased effectiveness in the level of service through the demonstration of their clinical outcomes; provision of an excellent experience for the children and young people they care for.

GOSH is constantly striving to improve the level of service that patients, their friends and families, staff and bank workers experience at the hospital. This is why listening to their stakeholders is important to GOSH. In the 2013 Listening event, the Trust identified areas that needed improving, and also what people want from it. Subsequently, GOSH created ‘Our Always Values’  - four values that reflect and reinforce the mission held at GOSH. They are:

  • Always be welcoming
  • Always be helpful
  • Always be expert
  • Always be one team

By upholding these values, GOSH can continue to provide the highest level of paediatric care and clinical research and maintain its status as a global centre of excellence.
